SEQ City Deal
On 12 February 2019, the Australian Government committed to develop a City Deal for South East Queensland (SEQ) in partnership with Queensland Government and the Council of Mayors (SEQ).
SEQ is experiencing one of the highest rates of population growth in the country. It is vital as the region grows that the lifestyle benefits of the region is protected and enhanced.
The SEQ City Deal will see all levels of government working together to deliver a better connected region through key transport projects, creation of more jobs, and protecting the region’s liveability.
The Australian Government, as a committed partner to the SEQ City Deal, will focus on infrastructure, employment and liveability to support the region’s population growth.
On 15 March 2019, Minister Tudge, Deputy Premier Trad and Lord Mayor Quirk agreed on governance arrangements for the deal negotiations as well as signing a Statement of Intent.
The Statement of Intent outlines a shared vision from all three levels of government for the SEQ Deal, centred on six priority areas: Connecting Infrastructure; Jobs and Skills; Liveability and Sustainability; Housing and Planning; Digital; and Governance and Leadership.
The SEQ City Deal will be negotiated in 12 – 18 months. Consultation will be a key part of the process, to ensure the SEQ Deal gets the right outcomes for the region’s community.
